Journalism
Pete has become a regular contributor to Dinghy Sailing Magazine. Pete now writes a column every edition for DSM on issues facing clubs and classes whilst also providing practical boat repair articles.
"Four years ago Pete started writing what was intended to be an occasional series on the sailing club scene in this country and some of the issues facing them. DSM received such a response to these early articles that the series became a permanent feature appearing in every edition since looking at: - Lack of easy access to sport for newcomers
- barriers clubs put up to these newcomers
- inflexible membership
- duty rotas are a real problem for clubs in losing members
- Junior/youth sailing at clubs.
- Are squads good for clubs?
- The support the RYA is aiming to provide clubs through OnBoard.
- Security considerations should not turn clubs into fortresses.
- Why clubs host open meetings and National Championships.
Pete’s Club Clinic articles are written in a lively and down to earth style, probing controversial issues within the dinghy sailing world in a well researched, knowledgeable manner. Each series never fails to elicit a great response form our readers.
Pete has provided regular practical boat repair articles aimed at helping owners undertake straight forward repairs themselves.
Giving concise, easy to follow advice, Pete’s Practical Projects are a favourite amongst our readers…always informative and never without a dash of humour!
Pete towards the end of 2006 started another series of articles for DSM looking at issues facing Class Associations."
